Shotbook is a film photography logbook. Everything you record — your cameras, the reels you load, and the metadata of every shot (date, place, weather, description) — is stored locally on your device. You can use the entire app without an account.

Data Storage

All data is stored on your device in a local SQLite database. This includes your cameras (model, format, lifetime shot count, acquisition date), reels (film brand, ISO, capacity, status), shot entries (frame number, date, place, weather, description), and app preferences such as theme and language. Local data may be included in your device's automatic backups (e.g. iCloud or Google backup).

Optional Account and Sync

If you choose to sign in with Apple, Shotbook creates an account identified by your Apple ID email (or its private relay address) and backs up your logbook — cameras, reels, and shot metadata — to a server (hosted on Supabase) so it can sync across your devices. Sync only happens while you are signed in. If you never sign in, nothing is transmitted anywhere. Signing out stops syncing and keeps your local data on the device.

Location

When you tap the "Here" shortcut while logging a shot, Shotbook uses your device location once to look up a place name for that shot. The resulting place name is stored with the shot; your coordinates are not stored or transmitted beyond that lookup. Location access is requested only when you use this feature and is never used in the background.

Camera Photos

Pictures you take or pick for your camera gear — using the device camera or your photo library — are copied into the app's private storage on your device. Camera and photo-library permissions are used only for this purpose, only when you initiate it. These pictures stay on your device and are never uploaded, even when sync is enabled.

Home-Screen Widget

The iOS widget shows the reel loaded in your camera and the frames left. Its data is shared with the widget through a private App Group container on your device and is never transmitted externally.

Third-Party Services

Shotbook does not use analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or tracking services of any kind. The only third party involved is Supabase, which hosts the optional sync backend described above, and Apple, which handles sign-in.

Data Deletion

You can delete individual cameras, reels, or shots at any time in the app; synced copies are deleted on the server as well the next time the app syncs. Uninstalling the app removes all local data from your device. To delete your account and all server-side data, contact the email below.

Changes to This Policy

If a future version of the app changes how data is handled, this policy will be updated and the date above revised before that version ships.
